It’s my birthday week and St. Patrick’s Day and both are reasons to have a little colorful fruity fun! I always loved cereal growing up and lately have been craving some of my childhood favs and Fruity Pebbles was one of them. Instead of just grabbing the box, milk, and my huge mixing bowl and going to town I decided to make smoothie bowls and smoothies with it… amongst other things. This way I get my fruity fix and nutrition, it’s called balance and moderation right? Not that any of that is really going on this week. If you follow me on social media you will know that I am at or just finished up with the Natural Products Expo West in CA and right now I’m probably at Disney celebrating my birthday! Which is just another thing that just sort of happened and since I’m now closer to 40 than 30, oh I know! a whole different story, why not have fun at Disney for my birthday? I know, I know maybe there is a theme going on here of not wanting to grow up with the kid favorite Fruity Pebbles and Disney but hey age is just a number and I am being an adult making sure I get some nutrition in here with this smoothie.

For some reason I’m not even wanting or craving a cake for my birthday. Maybe over the years I have had one too many bad cakes and frosting isn’t my thing. A inherited that from me not liking frosting either, S and my hubby on the other hand will eat ours. I love making cakes probably more than eating them, because I really love making them. Of course if it has a not traditional, non buttercream or fondant, than maybe since there are some I really like… umm ganache, salted caramel, a whipped cream pudding frosting I make. I am going to miss making my Birthday No Cake Shake (still a favorite and one of my very few posts, it’s begging to have new photos taken and be updated) for breakfast though… unless I am able to borrow a blender to whip one up! I’ll be sure to pack some nut butter and a packet of Vega protein (or two or three) in my bag just in case. If you were to make a smoothie or smoothie bowl with cereal what kind would you make it with? Oh I could list off a whole long list right now, anyone else right there with me?

Makes 1 serving, or two smaller smoothies just increase the cereal
1 orange, peeled
1 frozen banana
1/2-1c frozen strawberries
1 scoop vanilla protein, optional (used Vega Protein & Greens)*
1-1 1/2c non dairy milk (used So Delicious Coconut Almond Milk Blend)
1/3c Fruity Pebbles Cereal
*Or any protein you like or need for the day, I also swap it out for Vega Sport Protein after a workout.

If wanting a smoothie bowl start with 1/2c milk when blending the first batch. In a Vitamix, or high-speed blender, blend orange, banana, milk, and protein powder until smooth. If making a smoothie bowl add in milk as needed. Pour half to two thirds of the smoothie mixture into a glass or dish. Add in frozen strawberries, and additional milk if making a smoothie bowl, and blend smooth. Top or swirl with the first batch of smoothie in glass or bowl. Top with Fruity Pebbles and enjoy!

While I do receive some Vega products from time to time, which I listed as an option in this recipe, I do purchase much of it on my own. It has been my plant-based protein of choice since before I started blogging. Even though most Vega products used are purchased by myself I do add this disclaimer. I do not make any money off any Vega sales or posts. I only write about foods I love, my blog is an extension of my hobby to make fun healthy food creations for me and my family.
