Matcha Power Balls

Matcha Power Balls, it was only a matter of time before I posted this recipe! I wanted to post it last March but then waited. While matcha and green tea don’t have a season I like to think of March as a big green food month. I know as I sip on green smoothies almost daily I had this thought in my head that I just wanted to post it in March. Matcha is packed full of so much nutrition and is so good for you it is the perfect addition to a power ball recipe! Matcha has more antioxidant power than goji berries, blueberries, and spinach! It has anti-aging properties, is shown in many studies to aid in weight loss, is rich in chlorophyll and helps with detoxification, and many other health benefits. If those aren’t big enough reasons to of my favorites are it helps with your focus and concentration and it is great for energy! I really enjoy not only the benefits but the taste of matcha and one my my favorite ways to enjoy matcha is a matcha latte with homemade vanilla almond milk and a sprinkle of cinnamon. So I used that as my inspiration for these power balls keeping the flavors simple and using vanilla protein powder, my favorite Vega and since I planned on enjoying these after my workouts I used Vega Performance Protein. As not to overpower the matcha flavor and instead enhance it I decided to make these with coconut butter and having Sweet Spreads Cinnamon Roll Coconutter, a recently favorite find, I used that (I purchased it on VitaCost, if you are interested in a $10 off $30 coupon code I will post a link a the bottom of the recipe). If you don’t have this on hand you can use coconut butter or almond butter and add in a little cinnamon if desired. Made with almond meal or cashew meal these are quick to make and don’t require a food processor! Don’t have any almond meal or cashew meal on hand you can make your own by grinding almonds or cashews I just had some almond and cashew meal I wanted to use up. Simply delicious and good for you, oh yeah and they are green so they are the perfect power balls to enjoy this month!

Are you a fan of matcha? Stay tuned I also have a energy ball recipe posting soon!

Matcha Power Balls
Makes 12 balls
1c almond meal or cashew meal
1/3c vanilla protein powder (used Vega Performance Protein, Vanilla)
1/4c coconut butter, could use almond butter (used Sweet Spreads Cinnamon Roll CocoNutter, Coconut Butter)
1/4c maple syrup, honey, or agave
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1-2 tsp Matcha powder, plus more optional for rolling

In a medium to large bowl mix together almond/cashew meal, protein powder, and 1-2 teaspoons of matcha powder together. In a separate bowl mix together coconut or almond butter, maple syrup or sweetener of choice, and vanilla together. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix together until combine. Roll into balls, roll in matcha powder if desired, and place on a plate. Store in the refrigerator, or freezer for longer storage. I like to store them in the freezer and pull them out a couple minutes before I’m going to enjoy them if I want them soft, or right out of the freezer. Enjoy!

While I do receive some Vega products from time to time, which I used as an option in this recipe, I do purchase much of it on my own. It has been my plant-based protein of choice since before I started blogging. Even though most Vega products used are purchased by myself I do add this disclaimer. I do not make any money off any Vega sales or posts. I only write about foods I love, my blog is an extension of my hobby to make fun healthy food creations for me and my family.
