It is cold outside and it is time to Turn Up The Heat with this shake! Weather you make this first thing in the morning because you are busy and on the go (Never Skip Breakfast!), in the afternoon, after a workout you will feel it! It is packed with superfoods, nutrients, protein, fiber, and everything your body needs to keep you fueled. It is like a Spicy Mexican Hot Cacao, the heat will depend on how much cayenne pepper you add. Today I enjoyed this shake after my workout when I still wanted to “feel the burn”!
Some days I will make this in the morning as do my SuperMom thing and get the kids ready and going. It is the middle of January and many of you have resolutions around your health and fitness. It is all about #OneChange and so I wanted to share how Vega One has been my SuperMom secret weapon. Almost 2 years ago while at an event at Whole Foods (where it is sold, I don’t sell it or make any money from it) another mom introduced me to Vega. At the time things often got hectic and when they did I would skip breakfast, or meals, or if I did grab something quick they weren’t always the best choices. I was a busy mom always on the go, a million things to do, and put everyone elses needs before mine. I decided to give it a try, making just #OneChange. After realizing how quick it was to make a shake or grab a Vega One Bar on the go, the nutrition I was getting from it, and how amazing I felt it has been my “SuperMom secret”! No it isn’t a cure-all or magic pill but when you finally give your body the nutrient it needs to run properly it make a world of difference.
What are your goals for the year? What changes have you make or do you want to make?
Turn Up The Heat Chocolate Protein Shake
Makes 1 serving
1c almond milk (So Delicious Unsweetened Almond Milk Plus)
1 scoop Vega One Chocolate protein powder
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch cayenne pepper
chia gel (1 TBSP chia seeds, 1/4 cup water soaked 15 minutes until gel forms, or I will make this the night before)
1-2 tsp gelatinized maca powder, optional*
1 c of ice cubes, optional
* I don’t always add it when using the Vega One as it already contains Maca, if I do it is 1 tsp but will add 2 tsp when using Vega Performance Protein Chocolate or Vega Choc-a-lot Protein Smoothie.
Make chia gel, if you haven’t already done so. In a Vitamix, or high-speed blender, blend together everything except the ice. I do this so my chia seeds are all blended and smooth before adding the ice. Add ice and blend. Enjoy!
As a Vega Recipe Ambassador I receive Vega products, which I used as an option in this recipe. I use Vega not because it is given to me but because it has been my plant-based protein of choice since before I started blogging and some recipes are made with Vega products I purchase. I only write about foods I love, my blog is an extension of my hobby to make fun healthy food creations for me and my family.

Thanks! Great recipe. I used a scoop of Vega Performance Protein Vanilla and added a Tbsp cocoa powder and a handful of cacao nibs. I used 1/8 tsp cayenne. Great chocolaty flavor, and a nice amount of heat.

Thank you for your kind words, I am happy to hear you like my recipes! I like a little heat and spice, which explain my recent Mexican Superfood Hot Cocoa phase I just went through and why I now make a lot of spicy cinnamon green tea lattes. 😉
