Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, do you have a hot date planned? If you do, or if you donโt, this Hot Date Shake is a must. Even if it’s a hot date schedule with barre or the gym. Of course it’s just a pun on words but really I had to go with it because this shake is made with dates, slightly sweet, with a kiss of cacao and optional espresso to really get you fired up for whatever you have planned.
This is more of a thick “chocolate milk” rather than a shake. You can of course add in protein if you need it or want a shake and ice. My favorite way to enjoy this shake is with homemade cashew almond milk or coconut milk but it’s delicious with store bought coconut milk as well it’s just not quit as thick, rich, and creamy. Blend that with cacao powder, which contains antioxidants and a dose of magnesium, iron, and fiber. This is if you use good quality cacao and not cocoa. Maca powder with it’s adaptogenic-like qualities that help the body cope with stress. It also energizes without the jitters and crashes of caffeine and the reason I started using maca years ago it helps to balance hormones (and increase fertility). Add in a little espresso powder if you need an extra little boost. My husband is always telling my how good coffee is for him and his prostate. It is than sweetened by blending in dates, for energy! Energy for the gym, your day, or that hot date you have planned!
Honestly though I love sipping this without the coffee, yes this coming from a coffee lover crazy I know, in the afternoon when that slump hits or mornings I need some extra energy. It’s one of the reasons I started making nut milk again which is so easy and one of the things I’ve been blending up with my homemade coconut milk, besides my rich quick coconut “bombs” or just rich thick coconut milk without straining it all the way, and a coffee recipe I have coming. It’s really thick and I love my healthy fats!
I really could have used one yesterday. I got up and got the girls to school, headed to barre, and than I had a few errands to run that took longer than planned so I had to go straight to get the girls. While in the car S and I realized it was National Pizza Day so we moved our Family Foodie Day to last night and went out for pizza and got home late and I thought this post was written but couldn’t find it so I had to whip it up again. I debated on just doing what I did almost 4 years ago when I started my blog, 2 sentence, here’s the recipe, a photo, and go. Haha. Guess I’ll have to whip one up today, because I do have a hot dateโฆ with barre, grocery shopping, and prepping sourdough before picking up the girls and my parents coming to stay with us.

Oh wow. This looks really yum. Just the kind of drink I need to be able to stay awake to read in bed — much less a hot date! ๐ Thanks for posting!

AZ@…And A Dash of Cinnamon
I’ve never used maca powder before. What is it like?
awhiskandtwowands
It’s slightly caramely I think but my husband disagrees. I love all the nutritional benefits and usually don’t taste it much in what I blend it with.

I love that name, too cute! It’s been a while since I’ve used maca, but just got some of their maca chocolate bars – same delicious idea.

I’ll try mine without the coffee as I’m not a fan, but everything else sounds perfect! I normally avoid that afternoon slump, but I’m finding with the rainy weather we’ve been getting, my energy is zapped shortly after lunch ๐ This sounds like a perfect pick me up!

If you do the maca should help! I hope the rain stops soon because I’m headed there in a couple weeks, LA to Napa!
