The girls just started drinking probiotic yogurt again and this smoothie was a quick way to get a dose of probiotics, omegas, and your apple a day! It is very filling and satisfying with the yogurt, apple, and chia seeds and a perfect quick way to start the day. I’m not sure weather to go into how delicious this smoothie is or how good it is for you. Depending on the apple it can taste more like apple pie or apple crisp depending on if you use a sweet or tart apple, we haven’t found an apple we didn’t like in it. I should add though we only used apples we would normally just eat for a snack so we didn’t try every variety out there. If we wouldn’t eat the apple though we wouldn’t attempt to make a smoothie with it. We went with Siggi’s Vanilla Filmjölk we picked up at our local Whole Foods as it is easy on the tummy, I can even handle it (as a yogurt lover who was dairy free for years I was so happy to find out recently my stomach could handle Siggi’s again after it was a favorite from years ago), it doesn’t have a lot of sugar or anything artificial. It is simple ingredients and they only use milk from farmers who do not use growth hormones. Our Target use to carry it but have since stopped but we can still get it at our Whole Foods. You can use your favorite drinkable probiotic yogurt that is just what we used and one we love. If you have a dairy free one that you love I would love any suggestions as I haven’t found any I care for. So we have our yogurt filled with probiotics and protein. Chia seeds which are a great source of omegas which reduces inflammation, reduce high cholesterol, has been shown to enhance cognitive performance, high in fiber, gluten free, very filling, great for regulating blood sugar and reduce insulin resistance. A pinch of cinnamon, which is also good for you but we are only using a pinch so I won’t go into that. Than an apple which is packed with vitamin C, high in polyphenols, and a great source of fiber. Plus you have heard what the doctors say, or at least they use to when I was a kid… an apple a day helps keep the doctor away! I don’t always go into the health benefits of my recipes but this is a quick and simple one that I thought it would be nice to add it for those looking for quick, simple, delicious recipes that may help them live a healthier life and live to their personal best. You can peel your apple, I leave the peel on. For a real thick cold smoothie core your apple, cut into chunks, and freeze it ahead of time. I can say this is definitely a kid approved favorite that the whole family can enjoy!
Apple A Day Smoothie
Makes 1 serving
1c drinkable yogurt or thick non dairy milk of choice like homemade almond milk (used Siggi’s Vanilla Filmjölk)
1 apple, cored*
2tsp chia seeds
pinch of cinnamon
*You can remove the peel or leave it on, we leave them on. If you want a very cold thicker smoothie core and cut your apple into chunks and freeze ahead of time. If you want a tart smoothie grab an apple like a granny smith. If you are looking for something sweeter use a Gala or Braeburn. We also like these with HoneyCrisp and Zester apples. The options are endless, use what you have an hand but if you want to tailor it to what you are craving pick an apple that would match.
In a Vitamix, or high speed blender, blend everything together until smooth. Pour into a glass and sprinkle with a little extra cinnamon if desired. Enjoy!

Maybe I did it wrong…but a few years ago when I still had smoothies, I did freeze a chopped up apple for one….it was the worst thing ever! I couldn’t even drink it 😛 Something went wrong there!
