Sometimes you just need a little more coffee, if your me that would be all the time! Sometimes you just don’t want the big buzz so on those mornings there are Barely Buzz Oats. Of course if you top them with chopped espresso beans like I do I guess that defeats the purpose of them being barely caffeinated. I just love the flavor and crunch, so when I really want barely buzzed I just top them with cacao nibs or chocolate. These oats came after making a green coffee shake and trying to switch up my coffee proats I had on repeat. If you missed them on my Instagram it was just steel cut proats (steel cut oats and egg whites) with coconut oil and vanilla stirred in, sometimes raw stevia, and then topped with chopped espresso beans and chocolate (my fav Vega Maca Chocolate Bar). Green coffee powder while having less of a buzz, has the same amount of caffeine as green tea, also doesn’t really taste like coffee. To me it is almost like a faint matcha tea or more of a light earthy flavor I guess would be the best way I could describe it. It’s a energizing, antioxidant-rich superfood made from unroasted Arabica coffee beans. It has many of the same health benefits of coffee but since it is unroasted is high in antioxidants. Also high in fiber, you can read more about it here (not an affiliated link just the brand I like and use). I think of a warm bowl of oats or porridge as a nice big bear hug, think of this one as one from someone you love and how energized and excited you feel. It’s a great mood and energy boost you need to start any day, especially when topped with a little chocolate!

Barely Buzzed Oatmeal
Makes 2 servings
1 1/2c water or non dairy milk of choice
1/2c steel cut oats
1 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
2 tsp coconut oil
sweetener of choice to taste, as desired (used Stevia In The Raw)
2 tsp green coffee powder (used Navitas Naturals Green Coffee Powder)
Optional Topping and additions:
chopped coffee beans, cacao nibs, chocolate chips, cream, fresh raspberries, or even date or caramel sauce (used chopped coffee beans, Navitas Naturals Cacao Nibs)
Want proats? Add in 1/2 scoop of your favorite chocolate or vanilla protein (I like to use Vega One or Vega Sport Protein) or add in cooked egg whites.
In a pot bring oats and milk or water to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes until liquid has been absorbed and oat have softened, regularly stirring. I like mine creamy with texture. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, coconut oil, sweetener, and green coffee powder. Topping with optional toppings of choice. Enjoy!

Oh I’ll have to try it! I’ve only put it in smoothies, oatmeal, ect and not sprinkled on top. I can’t describe the flavor other than it reminds me of matcha in ways. Thank you.
