While making my Matcha Power Balls I had a few different ideas in mind which ended in a few different batches and these Chocolate Matcha Energy Balls were another favorite. Dates are one of my go to pre workout snacks and the base for most of my pre workout energy balls. Adding matcha to a basic chocolate energy is only fitting as it is great for focus, concentration, and energy! Add more or less depending on personal preference and I rotate between protein powder and cacao powder in these and as I like to add protein to them when I make them for more of a pick me up afternoon snack!
Chocolate Matcha Energy Balls
Makes 12 balls
10 Medjool dates, pitted
1c almonds
1/3c cacao or chocolate protein powder (use Navitas Naturals Cacao Powder or Vega Chocolate Performance Protein or Chocolate Vega One depending on nutritional needs)
1/2 tsp vanilla bean powder or 1 tsp vanilla
1-2 tsp matcha, plus more for rolling if desired
In a food processor pulse almonds until a course to fine texture. Add in dates, cacao or protein powder, vanilla, and matcha and process until well combine scraping the sides as needed. Roll into balls, roll in matcha powder if desired, and place on a plate. Store in the refrigerator, or freezer for longer storage. I like to store them in the freezer and pull them out a couple minutes before I’m going to enjoy them if I want them soft, or right out of the freezer. Enjoy!
While I do receive some Vega products from time to time, which I used as an option in this recipe, I do purchase much of it on my own. It has been my plant-based protein of choice since before I started blogging. Even though most Vega products used are purchased by myself I do add this disclaimer. I do not make any money off any Vega sales or posts. I only write about foods I love, my blog is an extension of my hobby to make fun healthy food creations for me and my family.

Would you believe I’ve still not tried matcha? I’m clearly out of the loop on this one!

Thank you! Yes I go in waves with matcha but this year it was my “go to” for March with St. Patrick’s Day. I still have a few recipes I didn’t get posted in time but they are good anytime!

Thank you! If you haven’t tried matcha I would buy a small amount as it can be expensive. However you can always just add it to smoothies for the health benefits if you don’t think the flavor!
