Chocolate Orange Smoothie Bowl

My go to quick breakfast on busy mornings is a smoothie as we are running out the door. I use Vega One as it gives me everything I need! Sometimes I like to mix things up and make a smoothie bowl, like this one or others you can find on my blog. There are even kid friendly versions or you can adjust them to make them kid friendly. I use to be in such a rush I would skip breakfast or grab it late hours after being up, sometimes hours after a workout, when I was already starting to feel it. Quick smoothies, make ahead breakfasts, and powerbowls have become my go tos on busy mornings and have made all the difference in my day. I feel amazing and I get so much more done when my body has the healthy fuel it needs. It”s a new year and small changes make all the difference. Make that OneChange with help from Vega One this year.

In a rush and no time to sit and eat this smoothie bowl, make the chia gel the night before, add a little extra milk to the smoothie portion, pour on top of the chia gel already in your to go cup, mix, and sip on you are on your way!

Chocolate Orange Smoothie Bowl

Makes 1 serving

2/3 c almond milk (used So Delicious Vanilla Almond Milk Plus, for extra protein)

1 scoop Vega One Chocolate, protein powder

1 frozen banana*

1 orange, peeled or 1/3c fresh orange juice

1 TBSP chia seeds

Optional orange or clementine slices, cacao nibs, or chocolate to garnish/ add in (used part of a Vega Maca Chocolate Bar, chopped)

*Frozen pumpkin or sweet potato can also be used, about 1/2-3/4 c, or almond milk ice cubes.

I like to puree a whole orange in my Vitamix and use the whole orange rather than juice but you can also use juice from an orange if you wish. Mix together 1/3 of the orange puree/juice with chia seeds and set aside for 15 minutes to thicken or overnight. I mix this in the bottom of a larger glass bowl or jar so I can just add my smoothie on top. Give the chia gel a stir once thickened. If you want a stronger orange flavor, it is subtle as is, stir the remaining orange puree to the gel or just pour it on top. In a Vitamix, or high-speed blender, blend together almond milk, Vega One, and frozen banana until smooth. Pour or spoon over chia mixture, garnish as desired. Enjoy!

As a Vega Recipe Ambassador I receive Vega products, which I used as an option in this recipe. I use Vega not because it is given to me but because it has been my plant-based protein of choice since before I started blogging and some recipes are made with Vega products I purchase. I only write about foods I love, my blog is an extension of my hobby to make fun healthy food creations for me and my family.
