I decided to make another shake this year for Earth Day as the girls really enjoyed the ones we made last year and they are a fun, quick, easy way to celebrate the day. This year I decided to make a Dirt Shake! I remember going out and planting trees for Earth Day when I was a little girl so I thought it was the perfect inspiration for this smoothie. Your kids will love this, besides it isn’t every day you let your kids eat dirt!
While we created this recipe to post for Earth Day it is a great recipe for Spring. Spring is when we plant our gardens and flower boxes and watch everything sprout and grow. I would also make these, or versions of for Easter get togethers, Mother’s Day, May Day, or anytime just to celebrate one of my favorite seasons, Spring!
Eat Dirt Green Protein Shake
Makes 1, or two smaller cups (shown)
1 c non dairy milk of choice (used So Delicious Unsweetened Almond Milk Plus)
1/2 c fresh or frozen raspberries, frozen berries will make it thicker
1-2 big handfuls of spinach, or greens of choice (used Earthbound Farms Organic Baby Spinach)
1 scoop chocolate or vanilla protein powder (used Vega Choc-A-Lot Protein Smoothie for kids, Vega One Chocolate for myself)*
1 TBSP cacao nibs, optional (Navitas Naturals)
1 c ice
Topping:
2 TBSP raw hulled hemp seeds (Navitas Naturals)
1 TBSP cacao powder (Navitas Naturals)
1 TBSP sweet cacao nibs, or chopped chocolate (Navitas Naturals)
2-4 spinach leaves
*Can use vanilla as it will still be brown with greens and berries but not as dark. Vega Performance Protein can also be used, which ever fits your needs for the day. If you want to make it without protein powder you can add 2-3 tablespoons of cacao powder and adjust sweetness using sweetener of choice.
Mix topping ingredients together and set aside. Blend smoothie ingredients together in a Vitamix, or high-speed blender, until smooth. Pour into glass, top with topping mixture, and place spinach leaves in top. Enjoy!
This recipe has been entered in the Spring Fling Dairy-Free Recipe Contest.
As a Vega Recipe Ambassador I receive Vega products, which I used as an option in this recipe. I use Vega not because it is given to me but because it has been my plant-based protein of choice since before I started blogging and some recipes are made with Vega products I purchase. I only write about foods I love, my blog is an extension of my hobby to make fun healthy food creations for me and my family.

Thank you!! Also great way to enjoy your not so pretty green shakes in a fun way instead of thinking of them as “dirty brown green shakes”!
