If you follow my blog you will know I love my coffee and it was only a matter of time for me to roll out my Espresso and Mocha Protein Power Balls! With so many favorite nut butters that have espresso in them or don’t and vanilla vs chocolate protein powder I have been making different batches trying to decide on my favorite but I just can’t narrow it down! What would use chocolate or vanilla protein powder? What nut butter?
Are you a coffee enthusiast that wants more? Not only can you find more coffee/espresso shakes and treats on my blog but have you checked out my Espresso Energy Bites?!
UPDATE! You might also love my Cocoa & Coffee Bliss Balls! Quick and easy snack bites that are a cross between a fat ball and energy bite and only require 5 simple ingredients (plus customization options, I like to add maca and brain octane or MCT oil for pre-workout) these little bites of heaven that keep me fueled and focused!
Protein Balls
Makes 12-16 balls
1/2 c raw cashews or almonds
1/2 c gluten-free oats
2 TBSP ground flax (optional)
1 scoop vanilla or chocolate protein powder (used Vega Sport Performance Protein, Vanilla and Chocolate)
8 Medjool pitted dates
1 tsp vanilla extract, optional
1/3c espresso almond butter, or nut butter of choice (used Wild Friends Vanilla Espresso Almond Butter, and Chocolate Nuttzo for one of the mocha batches, and Kolat Espresso Hazelnut Superfood Fusion Butter for the other Mocha Protein Power Balls)
1-2 TBSP water, as needed*
2 TBSP sweet cacao nibs or chopped dark chocolate (used Navitas Naturals Sweet Cacao Nibs for Espresso Power Balls and part of a chopped Vega Maca Chocolate Bar for Mocha Power Balls)
2 TBSP chopped espresso beans
*Will depend on nut butter and protein powder used. I need to add about 2 TBSP for Vega Performance Protein, less or none for Vega Protein Smoothie.
In a food processor grind nuts and oats into a coarse to fine powder depending on how much texture you want. Add flax and protein powder and pulse to combine. Add dates, vanilla, and almond butter and process until mixture comes together add water as needed. Dough should stick together when pinched between two fingers. Pulse in cacao nibs/chocolate and espresso beans. Remove mixture from food processor and roll into balls, I made 15-16 per batch. Store in the refrigerator or freezer until ready to enjoy!
As a Vega Recipe Ambassador I receive Vega products, which I used as an option in this recipe. I use Vega not because it is given to me but because it has been my plant-based protein of choice since before I started blogging and some recipes are made with Vega products I purchase. I only write about foods I love, my blog is an extension of my hobby to make fun healthy food creations for me and my family.

Have you tried this with the Vega All in One Mocha flavour? I very much dislike that flavour on its own and in smoothies but I don’t want to let it go to waste.

Yes, it’s been awhile I did like the mocha sport better. I’ve put it in power bites/balls, raw brownies, baked goods, ect. There are some recipes on the blog. If you aren’t a fan of the flavor I would mix half and half with chocolate if you have it or stick to recipes with a cacao and protein mix. Hope that helps.
