Bringing a whole new meaning to golden fries today with Golden Turmeric Garlic Fries! Things are off to a crazy start this year, I wouldn’t have it any other way, and here I am again late the night before Meatless Monday trying to figure out what I’m going to post and getting it together. This was going to be a Friday post since S, my oldest daughter, thought we should do Fri-Friday with fries. I can see that with all the types of potatoes out there, the flavor options, oh and the dips and sauces. My husband thought we were crazy and A, my youngest daughter, wasn’t a fan of the idea. Oh well it was a thought and besides if we took up all those Fridays with fries what would happen to all the pizza?
Keeping it real we sometimes have fries for dinner. Sometimes loaded fries like I’ve posted in the past just topping sweet potatoes cut into julienne strips and baked, aka fries, topped with a quick vegan chili and cheese. Sometimes just fries. In fact we had fries for dinner Saturday night, two kinds. So I know some are thinking that’s really healthy but hey they were homemade baked fries, these Golden Turmeric Garlic Fries. So nothing more than potatoes, a little extra virgin olive oil, spices and herbs. Sure we could have just had baked potatoes but those aren’t always as fun, oh they can be thought because I love my baked sweet potatoes with nut butter and other delicious toppings for breakfast especially, but we didn’t want the toppings. Oh don’t worry we didn’t just had fries, we balanced it out and added a soft boiled egg. We had to have something to dip them into, haha! So did we really just have brinner, aka breakfast for dinner? Just big hash browns and eggs? I’m sticking to it was dinner only because I had a glass of wine and I don’t normally have wine for breakfast.
So more about these Golden Turmeric Garlic Fries, they’re a little spicy but oh so good! I’m not sure if I was thinking about the curry I had been craving when I came up but when I thought about golden fries and all the fun and puns and the anti-inflammatory benefits of the turmeric I just had to make them. I did make multiple versions and an amazing quick homemade ketchup that will be coming in an upcoming post but if you’re looking for a reason to make fries you don’t need more reason than these are healthy baked fries with a golden turmeric benefit. I’m so hooked on turmeric right now and have been for over a year now but it’s helped so much with inflammation post workout and I love it with a sweet or spicy twist. I also think there is something about that bright yellow golden color that just makes me smile, like beets. Both of which stain, I have countless towels and shirts to prove it but that doesn’t stop the love.
Whether you want to spice things up and have fries for dinner or want to add these as a side to dinner tonight I hope you love them!
Thank you for joining my co-host Deborah and me for another fabulous Meatless Monday! I hope that you are inspired by the recipes linked up below!
Golden Turmeric Garlic Fries
Makes 4-6 servings
2lb russet potatoes, about 6 medium potatoes
1 TBSP avocado or extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp ground turmeric
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, optional
1 1/2 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp fresh ground pepper
1 TBSP minced garlic
1 TBSP chopped fresh parsley, optional
*Turmeric can stain so if you are new to using it just a note of caution. I cannot tell you how many white kitchen towels I’ve stained over the years with turmeric. I’ve also made the mistake of wearing my favorite white shirt while making turmeric golden milk and smoothies. Nothing to be scared of it’s like beets, and if you don’t know I wouldn’t want you to be surprised.
Preheat oven to 450F. Line 2 baking sheet with foil and lightly spray with extra virgin olive oil or non stick spray of choice. In a small bowl mix together turmeric, cayenne pepper, sea salt, and pepper. Peel potatoes and slice into about 3/8″ fries. We use a mandoline to julienne them but you can also cut them by hand. If cutting into a larger size you will just need to adjust cooking time accordingly. In a large bowl toss potatoes with olive oil and mix with your hands until well coated. Next add the blended spices and toss to coat, again noting that turmeric can stain so you will want to wash your hands right after and avoid contact with clothing. Spread fries on prepared baking pans in a single layer. Place in oven and bake for 20 minutes, turn/toss fries and rotate pans and cook for an additional 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden brown and done. Remove fries and toss or top with minced garlic and fresh parsley when serving. Enjoy!

YUM! I’ve never tried turmeric with french fries. And I’m a big garlic fan so this is a must. I wonder what type of aioli would work as a dipping sauce…
awhiskandtwowands
Interesting question… we were dipping them in eggs so didn’t think of a dip for these but we did have them with a fun ketchup that I made for another fry recipe that was good. If you come up with a good one let me know. I guess I would just default to avocado or eggs. LOL
