I have always liked tea and matcha tea is something I enjoy although in the past not often. Lately I have been loving matcha lattes made with homemade almond milk (almond milk made with dates or agave, vanilla bean, and a little cinnamon). A Matcha Protein Shake is a perfect addition to my green smoothie rotation. I personally like mine with almond milk, matcha powder, protein, gelatinized maca, and ice. When I like it thicker I add avocado. Banana is ok but I feel it overpowers the matcha. Like mint? This also can be made into a Mint Matcha Protein Shake.
Matcha Protein Shake
Makes 1
1 c almond or coconut milk (I use So Delicious Unsweetened Almond Milk Plus or homemade almond milk)
1/2 an avocado, could use 1/2 frozen banana but I prefer avocado
1 tsp matcha powder (used David’s Tea matcha matsu) if you really like matcha 2 tsp
1 scoop protein powder (used Vega Performance Protein Vanilla for one pictured, I also like Vega One French Vanilla or Natural, and Vega Protein Smoothie Oh Natural or Viva Vanilla)
1 tsp gelatinized maca powder (Navitas Naturals)
2 cups ice
*Optional you can add 1/4 c packed fresh mint leaves to make a Mint Matcha Protein Shake.
In a Vitamix, or high-speed blender, blend everything together until smooth. Enjoy!
As a Vega Recipe Ambassador I receive Vega products, which I used as an option in this recipe. I use Vega not because it is given to me but because it has been my plant-based protein of choice since before I started blogging and some recipes are made with Vega products I purchase. I only write about foods I love, my blog is an extension of my hobby to make fun healthy food creations for me and my family.

Such a fun smoothie! I use matcha in every single one of my smoothies! Love it! Such a fun way to brighten up the drink and also make it healthy too:) Happy St. Patty’s Day!!

Thank you!! Love matcha, do you buy yours in bulk if you use that much? Where do you get yours from if you don’t mind me asking. I find I am going through it a lot quicker now days and we don’t have a David’s Tea here just Teavana and I like the David’s better. There are so many kinds out there but I am kind of scared with the price to try new stuff. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Currently I have Rishi Tea, it’s decent, but I’d love to try others.

Great recipe! I like that version with banana and avocado, but you should try to mix mango too! Shake will be sobering and fresh 🙂
