Did you hear a loud “Are you serious? Is this for real?!” scream last week? I am pretty sure people could hear me states away when I saw the Vega One Mocha on the shelf at Whole Foods. I was like a kid in a candy store and to say I was excited was an understatement. I had seen the day before a picture of the new Mocha flavor on Instagram but hadn’t seen it yet and it wasn’t on Vega’s site yet so I was still not sure if or when I would get my hands on it, it was like it was a dream. If you are a regular to my blog you will know that Vega is my plant-based protein powder of choice I use in a lot of my recipes, although you can make them with your favorite protein powder as I know a few people do. It is also no surprise that I like, scratch that, love coffee. Not just for the buzz effect, ya sorry but some days this mom needs a little extra assistance, but also the flavor and smell. If I got to pick a flavor that Vega would make it would be coffee, not that it stopped my from creating coffee flavored or inspired coffee recipes before as you can also see by some of the previous posts on my blog. I have always thought that there is some little camera following me around because I will order products or buy them and it is only a matter of time before they show up on the shelves at Target, anyone else notice this? So I figured it was only a matter of time, was hoping before I get too old, that they would make a coffee flavored protein. So back to that day last week at Whole Foods, of course I picked some up and wanted to run right home to make a shake but I didn’t. WHAT, I know crazy but it was late Friday night and I decided to save it for Monday morning after I did my first Insanity Max 30 workout. Still not sure which is more insane the workout or the fact that Vega finally had a coffee, Mocha, protein. So I did my workout, it kicked my butt, and then I had my Mocha Vega One which instantly made me smile again. So I had to whip a quick and delicious, nothing too fancy, shake to share and to share the news. Mocha Maca Chip Protein Shake 2.0, because I have already posted 2 different versions. This is the first of many posts to come that use the mocha flavor, how do I know because I have already created another and have a list with about a dozen others I want to make. Anyone else come up with their best ideas while drinking coffee? Now for the good/ bad news, the Mocha flavored Vega One is only available at Whole Foods Market in the US, Canada all retailers and online (hope I have this info correct, they just posted about the new flavors yesterday, read more here). Good if you have one close you can run right now (it’s on sale!) and get some, bad if you don’t have one near you and live in the US. I am not sure if they will be rolling it out to other stores or selling it online, your guess is as good as mine. This new flavor is the new formula with more protein, as well as other good stuff so if you haven’t checked it out or it’s been awhile you will have to check it out. Oh and there is also another new flavor exclusive to Whole Foods, Coconut Almond, I haven’t tried that one yet but plan to pick it up, if there is room in my cart after I get more Mocha. Haha.
This post is fueled by my love for Vega and coffee, I was not paid for this post, although from my excitement you might think I won the lottery. If you work or are shopping at “my Whole Foods Market” while I am shopping there, hey you very well could be if you live in the area since I am there a few times a week, you would know my passion for foods I love, finding new products, and foods in general excite me.
Are you a coffee drinker? What is your go to coffee drink?
Mocha Maca Chip Protein Shake 2.0
Makes 1 serving
1 scoop Vega One Mocha
1c coconut or almond milk (used So Delicious Unsweetened Almond Milk)
2 tsp coconut butter, optional but adds a little extra creaminess
1c ice or frozen non dairy milk cubes, optional
1/4-1/3 Vega Maca Chocolate Bar, or dark chocolate/ carob nibs plus optional gelatinized maca powder if you still want maca
If you want a real treat that is better than that blended drink, at you know that ever so popular coffee shop with the green straws, top with a little So Delicious Coco Whip!!
Blend everything except chocolate in a Vitamix, or high-speed blender, until smooth. Blend in chocolate until well chopped, just enough so it doesn’t get stuck in the straw but you still have texture. Enjoy!
While I do receive some products from Vega as stated before from time to time, I buy many of them on my own, like the case was here. Vega has been my plant-based protein of choice since before I started blogging. Even though most Vega products used are purchased by myself I do add this disclaimer. I do not make any money off any Vega sales or posts. I only write about foods I love, my blog is an extension of my hobby to make fun healthy food creations for me and my family.

I was on the fence about the Coconut Almond but went to pick it up today while making the rounds and they were already sold out of the singles. Thought I could grab one and make it to fuel me through my errands without spilling a new tub, and yes out! So I am debating on getting a tub, if they aren’t sold out when I go back next week before the sale ends (right now $15 off small tubs, $25 off large tubs at Whole Foods).

Um so I had just about the same freakout at my local WFM Saturday when I found the Mocha flavor… AND it was on sale AND EVEN BETTER… there was a one day sale for 25% off all supplements. So yes, I picked up a large container and I’m seriously loving it. Simple concoction of frozen blueberries, kale, 1 scoop Vega One Mocha, and almond milk. Cheers 🙂

No way an additional 25% off?! Nice I wish I had known about that I would have waited on picking up more instead of picking it up Friday. Oh well. Happy to hear I’m not the only one who freaked out and loves it. I haven’t tried it with blueberries, only raspberries, so I will have to give that a try!
