Only 2 days until the Opening Ceremony for the Olympic Games in Rio! If you’ve missed our somewhat crazy last minute idea you can read about it here with our first Road To Rio Smoothie Bowl we posted Monday. Today the red Olympic ring and with that we have our No Guts, No Glory Smoothie Bowl!
When thinking about what to use for a red smoothie bowl the first thing that came to mind is berries, all the delicious ripe red berries and cherries, followed by beets. We could have gone with both but it’s summer and we are all about the berries, and cherries so we went with all the delicious ripe red summer berries! Throw all the frozen red berries you have in the Vitamix, add in coconut water, berry tea, or non dairy milk, along with optional berry protein powder and bam it doesn’t get any easier or sweeter than that! Well wait it does, kind of. If you are making this for kids another delicious option is to blend up frozen red berries and cherries with strawberry yogurt or vanilla yogurt of choice until nice and thick like froyo! Either way you spin it, they, and you’ll be loving this one!
Again these bowls are a canvas that you can customize and top as desired!
For toppings on mine I went with fresh strawberries and cherries, dried goji berries, and a drizzle of Peanut Butter & Co Smooth Operator. All those berries had me hungry for a peanut butter and jelly! The girls left the peanut butter off theirs as they like it with iced passion tea lemonade or yogurt and they just top with all the fresh red berries and cherries!
No Guts, No Glory Smoothie Bowl
Makes 1 serving
1/2c frozen strawberries
1/2c frozen raspberries
1/2c frozen cherries
1/2-1 berry protein, optional (like Vega Protein Smoothie, Bodacious Berry)
1c coconut water, passion tea, or clear liquid that pairs well with berries*
*Coconut or almond milk could also be used but may make the color a little lighter. This is also delicious using strawberry yogurt and omitting liquid and protein making with only yogurt and frozen berries.
Toppings: Strawberries, raspberries, goji berries, and Peanut Butter & Co Smooth Operator. Or strawberries, raspberries, cherries, and or toppings of choice.
In a Vitamix, or high-speed blender with a taper tool, blend together frozen berries, coconut water, and protein powder (or yogurt and berries) together until smooth. Pour into a bowl and top with peanut butter and berries, or toppings of choice. Enjoy!
