Perfect Pear Porridge
Makes 2 servings
1/2c steel cut oats (we use Arrowhead Mills Gluten Free Steel Cut Oats or McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal)
1 large pear, or 2 smaller pears
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 TBSP pure maple syrup, or sweetener of choice
1TBSP coconut oil, optional
2 TBSP chopped walnuts
Bring water, per your oats package instructions, to a boil. In the meal time cut pear and remove steam and seeds and cube or dice. When water comes to a boil stir in oats. After a minute add the pears (save a few pear pieces, optional, for garnish which can be broiled if desired), cinnamon, and maple syrup, and cook per package instructions. With the gluten-free it takes a lot less time, with the McCann I usually do overnight quicker cooking method. Once oats are cooked per package instructions and consistency as desired, stir in coconut oil. Divide oats into two bowls and garnish with pears and chopped walnuts. Enjoy!

I really need to learn to like oatmeal this winter. This looks so good-I tend not to like the texture

I can understand that. My daughter was the same way with the texture but likes steel cut porridge much better than regular oats for oatmeal. I would play around a little and there are so many grains out there you can use other than oats. Hope you find something you like to warm you up on cold winter mornings.
