Shamrock Shake
Shamrock Shake

March isn’t complete without enjoying at least one Shamrock Shake, especially if you like St. Patrick’s Day like I do! Like is a word I used to describe in a couple years ago when I posted this recipe but now my love for it has grown stronger as my little blessing, Baby G, was born on St. Patrick’s Day.

Posted a couple years ago just before Baby G arrived!

We’ve always celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and we would have my grandmother for dinner almost every year until a couple years ago when she passed away just before St. Patrick’s Day. Making traditional and not so traditional Irish food. I guess what I should say what we as Americans consider Irish food which my views on changed after spending a month in Ireland almost 5 years ago. Don’t get my wrong they still like their potatoes, root veggies, meats, and dairy.

I also use it as an excuse to make everything green, which happens to be A’s (my youngest daughter) favorite color! So a lot of green smoothies and treats which are usually also mint flavored like this Shamrock Shake!

This year is a little different with Baby Boy’s original due date being the 18th of March. When I heard that instantly I got excited and hoped for a St. Patrick’s Day baby. As of my last appointment I was told there was a good chance that baby boy would arrive before St. Patrick’s Day. There is even a chance that when this recipe posts he might already be here as I’m scheduling it a couple days before. I guess the only real way to know is to check Instagram if you are curious which I’ll try to keep up to date.

So lets get down to the detail of this very versatile Shamrock Shake that you can customize and has endless options!

Basics, non dairy milk, baby spinach, mint leaves (or sub peppermint oil or extract), and ice. If I’m going with just the basics I make sure to use a thick and creamy sweetened dairy free milk like Ripple Plant-based Protein Milk or a homemade cashew, almond, or coconut milk for the thickest creamiest texture. While you can go with a thinner 30- 60 calorie unsweetened dairy free milk you may have in your fridge it won’t give you a thick and creamy shake.

The options…
You can add vanilla protein powder (it’s also good with chocolate but won’t be green) and this is where if you want to use a thinner dairy free milk it would make a good option.
You can add match powder or matcha collagen for a natural boost of energy, and a little extra splash of green goodness!
In a chocolate mood add in some dark chocolate chips or a couple squares of dark chocolate for a minty chocolate chip version!
For a real treat top it with coconut whipped cream and optional chopped chocolate!

For the one pictured I went with all of the above! Usually when I make it though I leave off the whipped cream but always make it with a thicker milk and matcha powder, protein depends on my stomach and just recently have I been able to enjoy the Navitas Essential Blends and I’ve been adding only 1 scoop instead of the normal 2 scoops (one serving).

It makes the perfect afternoon pick me up or treat!

Hope you all have an amazing week! Do you celebrate St.Patrick’s Day or do anything special? If so tell me below!
