It’s October, where did time go? The temps are dropping like the changing leaves and Halloween will be here before you know it. All the fall get togethers, Halloween parties, scary (or not so scary) movie nights, don’t worry I’ve got you covered! As part of Peanut Butter & Co’s Yumsquad I came up with a delicious snack that I think your family and kids will love as mine! Oh and maybe I helped them eat it too, really peanut butter, chocolate, and pretzels do you blame me? I decided to skip the shakes, dessert, and baked goods and I channeled my inner childhood to bring you a fun snack! Ever had People Puppy Chow, the cereal mix coated in chocolate and peanut butter, and covered with all that messy powdered sugar? The snack mix you could never sneak because the powdered sugar mess gave it away. Trust me I tried! Oh there’s still powder involved, and chocolate so chances you can sneak a handful is still slim. Well take that and make it with pretzels instead, for a little saltiness, and instead of powdered sugar vanilla powdered peanut butter! Just as good but less sugar and more protein, sounds good to me. Made with our favorite gluten free Quinn Sea Salt Pretzels and Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips it’s an easy gluten free, dairy free, and egg free so all of our friends can enjoy it.

You can cover all of the pretzels with powdered peanut butter, which one my girls is all for, or you can do half and half as I did for contrast to be the “sticks” and “bones” which my other daughter likes. Really either way you can’t go wrong, again pretzels, chocolate, and peanut butter need I say more? Well yes, yes I can! There is one more twist that seems to be more for adults than kids but you can make it with Pumpkin Spice Peanut Butter for a little extra fall flavor fun! You can also cover it all with powder and add in Peanut M&Ms to make Sticks and Stones. There are options, have fun and play with it.

It really can’t get any better than a twist on a childhood favorite, oh wait yes, yes it can! Sorry I’m just in one of those moods while writing this so I’m full of spunk. Nope it isn’t sugar, coffee, or wine, just lovin’ life!

Sticks and Bones Snack Mix
Makes about 15 servings
14-16oz pretzels (used 2 bags, 7oz Quinn Sea Salt Pretzels, gluten free)
2/3c chocolate chips (used Enjoy Life Dark Chocolate Chips, allergen friendly)
1/2c Peanut Butter & Co Smooth Operator or Pumpkin Spice Peanut Butter
2 TBSP butter (used Earth Balance Coconut Spread)
1 ½ – 2c (6.5oz container) Peanut Butter & Co Go Mighty Nut Vanilla Powdered Peanut Butter

Pour pretzels into a very large mixing bowl and set aside. In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine chocolate, peanut butter, and butter. Heat the mixture, stirring constantly with a heatproof spoon or spatula, until entirely melted and combined. Alternatively, place chocolate, peanut butter, and butter in a large microwavable bowl, microwave for 1 minute, stir the mixture with a heatproof spoon or spatula to combine. Heating for an additional 30 seconds at a time if needed. Pour melted chocolate mixture over pretzels and mix with a rubber spatula until all the pretzels are coated with the mixture. Pour half of the pretzels into a gallon size zip loc bag, add half of the peanut butter powder and shake to coat. Adding more as needed to coat the pretzels. Alternatively you can coat all of the pretzels with the powder, putting remaining pretzels in another ziploc and adding peanut butter powder and shaking to coat. Let pretzels cool either leaving the bag open or spreading out on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Store in an airtight container for up to a week. Enjoy!
