The cold air has rolled in and even flurries and all I want to do is snuggle up with a nice warm mug of hot cocoa. Not just any hot chocolate though Turmeric Hot Cocoa!
Sometimes out bodies just need a little extra TLC and right now is one of those times for me. Turmeric has always been a staple and regular in my daily life but more so right now after barre and just in general to help with inflammation and stress. I managed to keep up with my 3-4 barre classes a week through the first 20 weeks of pregnancy which was my goal. Now I will go to 2-3 classes a week while listening to my body and still making sure I get the rest and care it needs.
I’ve been loving Turmeric Golden Milk for years. First adding turmeric to smoothies and smoothie bowls, then making turmeric milk to sip hot or cold or add to my smoothies. I’ve talked about why I love turmeric for so many reasons over and over so I won’t go into that you can read here, or one of my many other posts. If you’re looking for more anti-inflammatory turmeric recipes here are “a few” options from salads, smoothies, smoothie bowls, baked goods, ect.
Switching up my a favorite turmeric lattes I went a little more indulging with this Turmeric Hot Cocoa! Hot Cocoa with benefits, a little spice, a little bite (from ginger), and everything nice!
Nice because it’s made with raw cacao powder! Cacao powder is one of the most powerful superfoods that’s packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Great for brain and cardiovascular health, memory, immunity, positive effects on stress and inflammation, they don’t call it good mood food for nothing.
I can just sit and sip a mug of Turmeric Hot Cocoa and relax it’s so calming. Made with healthy real food ingredients and sweetened with pure maple syrup or honey I can smile with each sip knowing I’m doing something good for my body. This is an easy recipe to add adaptogens and or collagen to. Currently I don’t add my usual adaptogens as I’m pregnant but have been adding collagen as I really need to up my protein and it’s been a real struggle with many of the plant-based sources and old staples not agreeing with me.
It you like this or are looking for other turmeric lattes here are a two favorites, Bee Sting Turmeric Latte and Pumpkin Spice Turmeric Latte.
Today is Meatless Monday and I look forward to seeing what’s happening in your kitchen and hope you link up with me and my co-host Deborah and share! I also hope you check out and are inspired by the recipes linked up below.

|
- 2 c non dairy milk (I prefer coconut milk, Ripple for a plant-based protein option, or barista almond milk like New Barn's for a rich creamy texture)*
- 2 TBSP cacao powder (Navitas Organics)
- 1 tsp turmeric powder (Navitas Organics)
- 2 TBSP pure maple syrup or honey, or to taste
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp fresh grated ginger
- small pinch black pepper
- 1 TBSP coconut oil or cacao butter (Navitas Organics Coconut Butter)
- 1 scoop collagen (Vital Proteins)
- 1/2 tsp maca, ashwagandha, reishi, or other adaptogens

- In a Vitamix, or blender, mix the milk, cacao powder, turmeric, ginger, maple syrup, cinnamon and black pepper.
- Warm in your Vitamix, steam, or transfer to a medium saucepan and heat. Alternatively you can heat everything together in a saucepan over medium heat and whisk ingredients in.
- Taste and adjust the sweetness if desired. Sprinkle with cinnamon and turmeric if desired.
- Enjoy!
If making with already made golden turmeric milk you can just add cacao powder, cinnamon, sweetener to taste and optional ingredients.
You can make the mixture ahead, 2-3 days, and heat just before enjoying. I make golden turmeric milk ahead to keep on hand to make this hot cocoa and other turmeric lattes.
Like it, PIN it for later!

It is way to hot in Florida for me to be craving hot chocolate but If I was back home I know I would have had plenty by now. This looks like a fun twist on it. I love your photos, so cozy looking.

Opposite of what we have, cold and snow! I haven’t had a chance to try this one iced but I’ve had shakes that are chocolate protein powder and golden turmeric milk.
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness
I have never thought of adding that to hot cocoa but the truth is I don’t usually add anything (but maybe a little whip cream…haha)!
Thanks for the link up! This is my first time linking up! -M

Whipped cream and marshmallows are always good options!

It just so happens that I have almost everything this recipe calls for–can’t wait to curl up with a mug of this + Netflix this weekend! :]!

Sounds like a nice relaxing weekend! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Why haven’t I done this before? This really looks so delicious but it’s also a way to add a little bit of something extra to my cocoa! Am definitely going to be giving this a try and will share with the family.
awhiskandtwowands
Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! If sharing with kids they might like a little less ginger unless they love it like my youngest and adjust sweetness as it isn’t too sweet.

Thank you Alisa. I haven’t and I think there actually might already be one.

I love the addition of turmeric to hot cocoa. I like taking turmeric, but I find the taste too strong straight. This looks perfect to me!
Kortney
That sounds like the perfect way to warm up and wind down. Do you think coconut sugar would be an ok way to add sweetness to this?
awhiskandtwowands
Yes you could definitely use coconut palm sugar in place of maple syrup, or even agave if you do that. I’ve made hot cocoa with coconut palm sugar and I just usually throw it in the blender quick before or after heating it up.

I tried this last week and LOVED it. I’m a hot cocoa fan but don’t have many sweets so this more wholesome recipe was perfect for me! Perfect balance of sweetness, turmeric, and chocolate. Thanks for the recipe!

This looks delicious! My kids and I all have autoimmune issues so I’m always trying to find ways to sneak turmeric in them. I think that they’ll love this!

Hmm, this is new to me. I’ve never tried turmeric with cocoa. I’ve tried it with milk though. Since I like chocolate, it’s worth to try this. Thanks!

I am addicted to this drink… It’s so delicious! I have it in the morning after my workout as a recovery drink (with collagen protein) and sometimes add a spoonful of MCT oil. I love it!!
awhiskandtwowands
I’m happy to hear you’re loving it! Agreed, so delicious with collagen and MCT, although I haven’t added MCT oil for awhile.
